Adopt-A-School’s purpose is to enlighten our children, one student at a time. Often the focus of a household is on a child’s academic success or personal accomplishments. How shortsighted for us not to insist even more that children learn of God. Studies indicate that less than ten percent of public school students have any knowledge that there is a Creator who loves them and who has a great plan and purpose for their lives. With no written guidelines to govern right and wrong behavior, it’s not a surprise to see why students are failing in life. Without biblical truth, students are left with false information to guide them. Neglecting Bible study, prayer and failing to thank God can actually harm children.

Parent Testimonies:

"Our daughter attends Released Time and we have seen a tremendous change in the way she treats us and her brothers and sisters. She is a changed girl."

"I’m a single parent raising three children, so even to write this is amazing. I had to! Released Time has saved me.  I wish every school had that program for my other children."

"John is a different person since starting Released Time."

Adopt-A-School’s mission is to reach out with the love of Christ and meet the needs and touch the wounds. We help schools to excel academically by offering support where our limited resources and volunteers can assist. We believe the best way to help our public schools is through Released Time. The Scriptures have been and can be legally taught during the school day to public school students as long as we secure parental permission. Students can leave the school premises for 1 hour per week to attend Bible education classes led by trained Christian volunteers of local churches.

Released Time is not new. Since its inception in 1914, millions of students from kindergarten through high school have participated. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld Released Time as protected by the Constitution of the United States. Sunrise Church is a proud member of the Released Time program.

Educational Assemblies is a privilege for select groups and is designed to help students feel important and valuable. Listening and following advice are maximized by understanding their exclusivity to important information. Learning from those who have built the bridges of success gives great credibility and encourages follow-through.

An example of a select group might be to invite 30 to 50, 9th and 10th grade at-risk girls from our local high schools to participate in a Girl's Tea, with parental permission. Lunch could be provided, proper etiquette taught, volunteer professional speakers teach money matter skills, motivational speakers would give their testimonies and success stories, and students could be given life-changing advice. For at-risk boys, maybe offer a GQ lunch.

Mentors provide a buddy system that encourages volunteerism rather than idleness that encourages troubling situations. Friends and peers are more influential in a teenager’s life than any other. Encouraging Christian Clubs at the junior high and high school level will help student mentorships become a stronger part of the student body. A Christian befriending someone who is struggling with peer pressure is the best source for redirection.
